Autumn Tour Reviews
Hi Guys and Girls
Sorry for not being around for a while, work really silly etc etc
however did manage to get away from work on Sunday to get to Bush Hall
To be honest
I was not entirely up for the concert as I was tired, hungry peeved off with work
and standing in less than clement weather for 20 mins did little to move me.
Sometimes
as an avid concert goer of over 30 years you get a little blase and sometimes "tired"
and unfairly over expectational and it takes almost moments of epiphany to propel
yourself back to reality. As a well documented Brucie nut, being in the San Siro
in 2003 and The Nou Camp this July will take some beating. I freely admit to having
a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye as 75000 people were as one singing along
with Bruce. Seeing Neil Young this year was another.
Now fast forward to last Sunday
and indulge me if you will right to the end of 2hrs and 15 mins of brilliance with
enough Bruce references , covers, new songs etc to keep me happy and Turn me Tender
is sung. Hell here comes that feeling again. The guy is simply quite amazing and
its beyond my simple brain to understand why he is not playing to huge audiences
but in a way glad that he does not as it would take away the intimacy and the intensity
of the concert.
Martyn is without a doubt getting better and better and the reinvention
of the songs with rephrasing and subtle changes along with altered intonation give
them new meaning and a new life. Allied to this is the now always accepted passion,
fire, belief, inner strength and the sheer bloody mindedness and resolve of the man
that if we all try hard enough we can make a difference and "change the world"
To
say what were the hightlights on Sunday is not really fair as the whole concert was
on a level that could not be betterd but Lonely Like America sounded to me an absolute
belter with Dancing in the Dark interjected. Better Man again an absolute stonker.
Change the World introduces us to a funky Martyn and Vegas was pure theatre. Great
use throughout the concert of gutar loops echoes etc gave the new songs extended
depth. Biggest surprise for me was the Tom Petty cover Free Falling. Methinks its
time for Run to Cover Vol 2.
I was counting up the number of times I have seen an
artist in multiple concerts and after Bruce Martyn is second on the list. Says it
all really.
Happy xmas to you all
Peace and Respect
